Grilled Sausage Hoagies With Mango Salsa

This recipe for Mango Salsa Grilled Sausage Sandwiches takes a classic dish and gives it a tropical twist with the addition of sweet and tangy mango salsa.

The salsa is made with diced mangoes, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, and lime juice. It's the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy, and it's a delicious complement to the grilled sausages.

Ingredients:

  • 2 mangoes, peeled, pitted, and diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha
  • 4 sausages (such as Italian sausage, bratwurst, or chicken sausage)
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • Instructions:
  1. In a medium bowl, combine the mangoes, bell pepper, red onion, jalapeño (if using), lime juice, cilantro, and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and sriracha.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  4. Grill the sausages until cooked through, about 8-10 minutes per side.
  5. While the sausages are grilling, brush the inside of the hoagie rolls with the mayonnaise mixture and grill until toasted, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  6. To assemble the sandwiches, place a sausage in each hoagie roll and top with the mango salsa. Serve immediately. 

Tips:

  • For a spicier salsa, add more jalapeño pepper or use a hotter variety, such as habanero pepper.
  • If you don't have cilantro, you can substitute another fresh herb, such as parsley or basil.
  • To make the mayonnaise mixture ahead of time, whisk together the mayonnaise and sriracha in a small bowl and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • For extra crispy sausages, grill them over direct heat until browned and slightly charred on all sides.
  • To toast the hoagie rolls evenly, brush them with the mayonnaise mixture on both sides before grilling.
  • Serve the sandwiches immediately with your favorite sides, such as potato salad, coleslaw, or grilled vegetables.
